Cornell University provides time away from work to eligible employees for a variety of reasons. Time away from work must be approved and recorded in a manner that protects the interests of both the institution and its employees.
Cornell University provides catastrophic leave donation to assist eligible staff members who have experienced a catastrophic, health-related event and have exhausted all accruals, with the exception of up to five days of vacation, which he/she may elect to save.

In light of the events of September 11, 2001, University Policy 6.9, Time Away From Work, Section on Military Leave, is being amended effective January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2018 by adding the following pay and benefits provisions for those staff members called to active military duty.
Cornell University provides paid vacation to eligible staff members for rest, relaxation, and renewal. Cornell expects employees and supervisors to coordinate approved vacation time with the business needs of the department, and to properly record vacation time taken.
Cornell University may use disciplinary actions to assist supervisors and staff members in resolving unsatisfactory job performance, misconduct, or behavior that violates university policies, procedures, or practices.
