Welcome to the Web site of Cornell University's Division of Financial Affairs (DFA), Cornell's central finance management function, led by Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer Joanne M. DeStefano.

DFA's vision comprises three components: "Partners, Stewards, Innovators."  "Partners" recognizes that with Cornell's decentralized organization, success depends on effective cooperation with staff and faculty. "Stewards" reflects DFA's focus on responsible policies and practices that safeguard the university's finances.   As "Innovators,"  DFA constantly looks for better ways to deliver financial services.

Announcing New IRS Wage Withholding: "Making Work Pay"
This provision of the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act" provides taxpayers with a reduction of federal withholding in their 2009 and 2010 paychecks. No action is necessary to receive the credit. However, individuals may choose to revise their W-4 withholding allowances if they run the risk of being placed in a higher tax bracket. Employees may use the "W-4 Self Service"  application to view and/or update current withholding allowances.

Note: The university cannot provide individual tax advice. Please speak with a personal tax advisor to determine your personal tax liability.

For more information regarding the "Making Work Pay" provision, visit the IRS web site. The IRS has also provided  Publication 919 as additional guidance.
