As announced in last month’s Research Administration Forum, we have changed the process for establishing contract control accounts for sponsored (fund CG) projects in order to reduce administrative burden and improve the timeliness of account establishment. Effective October 1, these accounts are now initiated by the unit and/or its business service center.
Contract control accounts are the only accounts that had been established in significant volume by a central office. By transitioning this setup to units, there will be a reduction in touch points, as well as in the elapsed time between award and account finalizations. Prior to making this change, a long-term pilot was conducted; the participants universally agreed that making this change would reduce overall burden.
Information regarding account set-up may be found on the Accounts page. The slides and WebEx from the Research Administration Forum are available on our Policies and Procedures page. We have requested that the award distributions from the Office of Sponsored Programs reflect this new procedure and documentation.
