Accounting Certification

Certification will help to develop and enhance accounting skills and knowledge by providing an overview of the accounting function, as well as detailed training on the use of specific accounting tools and their associated policies and procedures.

The Accounting Certification Program is a 14-week program intended for unit preparers and approvers of accounting information. Each session is instructor-led by Division of Financial Affairs staff. Upon completion of the program, attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and continuing education units (CEUs).

Staff members employed in business service centers will be required to pass an open-book exam for each class to obtain certification. Non-service center staff can also take the exams for certification.

What if I take these classes individually, can I still obtain the certification?

Absolutely! Classes that are offered in the certification program are also offered individually (see Required Courses). Although the courses offered for the certification program are held on Wednesdays, and the individual courses are offered on different days, the classes and exams are identical. Offering classes individually at different times allows us to meet the needs of our customers. In fact, by taking classes more often than once per week, many staff members have successfully completed the certification program FASTER than those who meet every Wednesday (only if the timing of class dates coincides with courses needed).
