Strategic preferred suppliers have all the attributes of a preferred supplier, and they provide additional benefits to the university. These suppliers offer significant multiyear cost savings to the university and contribute to satisfying strategic vendor consolidation efforts and annual customer satisfaction improvement commitments.
Preferred suppliers have participated in a competitive proposal and negotiation process and were selected because they met criteria developed by commodity teams comprising campus experts and have agreed to provide the best overall value to the university. Where agreements with a specific supplier exist, units must procure goods and services from these preferred suppliers regardless of dollar amount or procurement method.
If a preferred supplier agreement does not exist, and if the purchase exceeds the formal bid limit of $10,000, units must identify a vendor through competitive bidding, unless an appropriate justification has been made and a procurement agent specifically authorizes an alternative selection method.
