Commodity Codes to UNSPSC

Commodity codes and sub-codes were created for use in placing orders within the Automated Procurement and Payment System (APPS) to classify goods and services ordered by Cornell. With the implementation of the Kuali Financial System (KFS), Cornell will begin using the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code® (UNSPSC) to classify goods and services. The UNSPSC is more extensive than Cornell's former code system, offers more accurate classification, and is recognized by many industries and vendors around the world.

The table below will help you convert the commodity code you used to use in APPS into the new UNSPSC that you will use in KFS. You will no longer need sub-codes. The purchasing agent responsible for each commodity is listed, as well. When you create a requisition in KFS, you can search the complete list of over 40,000 UNSPSCs to choose the right code for the products or services you are ordering.

Note: When processing state orders, use the state commodity codes.
