FOIL Requests
Routing Freedom of Information Requests New York State has established the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), which provides the public with the right to access the records of New York State agencies. While Cornell University is a private educational institution, it enjoys a unique partnership with the State University of New York. In a recent court case, it was ruled that, in some circumstances, Cornell may be subject to FOIL.
Therefore, if you receive a FOIL request for Cornell financial information, please forward it immediately to the Vice President for Financial Affairs Joanne DeStefano at jmd11@cornell.edu or 341 Pine Tree Road, Ithaca. Timeliness is important, because the law requires response to a written request within five days.
